# First Take playoff model - through Week 4
Latest finished results are included per the user. Sleeper's roster standings had only processed Week 3 at retrieval. Week 4 records, PF and PA are reconstructed from matchup results, not copied from the stale standings.

## Model
200,000 seasons; random seed 202603. Observations are each team's actual starting-lineup scores in Weeks 1-4. Prior team mean: league average 133.908; prior strength SD 15 points. Weekly residual SD 25 points (deliberately above the observed pooled SD 19.052). Normal-normal posterior mean weights four-week average by 59.016%, league average by 40.984%; posterior mean SD 9.603 points.
Draw each team's latent scoring mean once per simulated season. Draw independent weekly Normal scores around that mean with SD 25; floor at zero and round to 0.01. Use the actual retrieved Week 5-14 pairings. A weekly tie adds half a standings win. Rank by win equivalents, higher PF, higher PA. Count seeds 1-6 as playoffs, 1-2 as bye. No championship odds are implied.
Sensitivity: four additional 100,000-season runs cross prior SD {10,20} with weekly SD {25,35}; displayed spread spans these and the main model. These are assumption ranges, not confidence intervals. The main Monte Carlo sampling error is at most about 0.22 percentage points for a 95% interval; model uncertainty is much larger. Rounded main playoff odds sum to 600%; the unrounded probabilities sum to exactly 600%.
Limitations: only four games of evidence; no player-level forecasts, injuries, NFL bye adjustments, trade/waiver effects, opponent correlations, future scoring changes or commissioner overrides. Current strength is uncertain, not known. Current team names are used as labels; do not infer that they were identical in earlier weeks. League chat is not an input to the playoff model. The separate editorial reporting was subsequently refreshed through authenticated league chat and includes verified football quotes and rivalry context. Injury and trade reporting does not alter these score-based playoff estimates.
## Verification
All 14 weeks contain each roster exactly once and five two-team matchups. Weeks 1-3 scoring matches the processed platform PF exactly. Every simulated season has exactly 70 league wins, six qualifiers and two byes. Every team has bye odds at or below its playoff odds. Hand-check: Ivan 449.28 + 186.62 = 635.90 PF; 3-0 + the Week 4 win = 4-0. No scores after Week 4 enter the model.

McConkey was confirmed active in the Chargers' October 4 inactive report; their October 5 update says he played 24 snaps, was questionable to return with a foot injury and later ruled out. Rice's early hamstring exit and Kansas City's Week 5 bye are confirmed in the Chiefs' October 5 game recap. Goedert's pregame absence with a knee injury is confirmed in the Eagles' October 4 inactive list. Vi's fantasy reserve placement is an October 6 roster observation, not proof of an NFL IR transaction or the date of a fantasy move. An in-game injury may limit a player's opportunity, but these sources do not establish a healthy alternative score, a recovery date, or that an injury changed the winner.
